In 1809, Alexander Petrov (1794-1867) defeated Aleksei Kopev in Saint Petersburg, Russia (+4-2=1).  He also defeated Baranov.

In 1817, William Lewis drew with Peter Pratt in London (+2-2=0).  Lewis gave knight odds.

In 1818, Aaron Alexandre (1765-1850) defeated Weyle (Automaton) in Paris (+2-1=0).

In April, 1821, Deschapelles defeated John Cochrane in Paris (+6-1=0).  Deschapelles gave odds of pawn and move.

In April-May, 1821, William Lewis defeated Alexandre Deschapelles (+1-0=2) in Paris.  Deschapelles gave the odds of one pawn and one move.

In October 1821, Thomas Hood defeated Andrew Wyllie in London (+2-0=1).

From 1824 to 1828, a match was held between the London Chess Club and the Edinburgh Chess Club.  The Edinburgh CC won the match (+2-1=2)

In 1825, Luigi Luchini drew a match with Topi in Rome, scoring 10-10.

In September, 1830, Wilhelm Hanstein (1811-1850) defeated Johann Escher (1771-1848) in Zurich, Switzerland (+3-1=1).

In September, 1830, Carl Mayet (1810-1868) defeated Heinrich Meister (1779-1836) in Zurich (+4-1=0).

In 1831, Alexander McDonnell defeated William Fraser (Frazer) in London (+3-1=1).

In 1833, Harry Wilson defeated J. B. Hoffmeister in Portsmouth (+8-2=0).

In June-July, 1834, La Bourdonnais defeated McDonnell in their 1st match, scoring 18-7 (+16-5=4).  The match was played in London.  All the other matches were played in London.

In 1834, McDonnell defeated La Bourdonnais in their 2nd match (+5-4=0).

In 1834, La Bourdonnais defeated McDonnell in their 3rd match (+6-5=1).

In 1834, La Bourdonnais defeated McDonnell in their 4th match, scoring 11.5-6.5 (+8-3=7)

On July 14, 1838, Johann Maelzel (1772-1838) drew a match with Captain Joseph Nobre aboard a ship in the Atlantic Ocean (+1-1=0).  A few days later, Maelzel died in his cabin before reaching Charleston, SC. (source: Jose Raul Capablanca: A Chess Biography, by Miguel Sanchez, p. 12)

In November, 1838, Oliver defeated Picquet in Boston (+2-1=0).

In August-September, 1895, Harry Pillsbury won at Hastings, followed by Chigorin, Lasker, Tarrasch, Steinitz, and Schiffers.

In 1895, D.G. Baird won the Manhattan CC championship.

In October-November, 1896, William Napier defeated Frank Marshall in New York (+7-1=3).

In 1896, Louis Schmidt (1855-1938) won the Manhattan CC championship.

In 1896-97, Lasker defeated Steinitz in the 6th world championship match, held in Moscow.  He scored 12.5-4.5.

In February-April, 1897, Pillsbury defeated Showalter in Brooklyn, scoring 11.5-9.5.

In February-April, 1898, Pillsbury defeated Showalter in New York (+7-3=2).

In May-June, 1898, Tarrasch won the Kaiser Jubilaeumsturnier in Vienna.  He defeated Pillsbury in the playoff.  Dawid Janowski took 3rd place.

In 1898, Dawid Janowski defeated Jackson Showalter in New York (+7-2=4).

In 1898, D.G. Baird and Gustave Koehler tied for 1st in the Manhattan CC championship.

In May-July, 1899, Emanuel Lasker won at London, followed by Janowski, Pillsbury, Maroczy, Schlechter, Blackburne, and Chigorin.  The minor tournament was won by Frank Marshall.

In September-October, 1899, Mikhail Chigorin won the 1st All-Russian championship, held in Moscow.  Schiffers took 2nd.

In 1899, James Hanham won the Manhattan CC championship.

In September, 1900, Louis Uedemann won the 1st USA Open championship, held in Excelsior, Minnesota.  There were 20 players in the event.

In 1900, Samuel Lipschuetz won the Manhattan CC championship.
